NextCure is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company committed to discovering and developing novel, first-in-class immunomedicines to treat cancer and other immune-related diseases by restoring normal immune function. We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist with in vivo research proficiency to join our team. The NextCure Discovery Department employs multiple function-based, high-throughput screening approaches to identify proteins with novel immune function in cancer and other diseases for the development of novel, first-in-class immunotherapies. This position will focus on in vivo disease modeling of novel targets identified with our Discovery platforms, as well as bench work related to in vivo studies, including cell line culture and human immune cell isolation. The selected candidate will work in a highly dynamic, proactive, multidisciplinary environment with the goal of rapidly moving novel biological immunomedicines to the clinic.


Responsibilities:

• Skillfully perform various methodologies for in vivo studies including injections (iv, ip, sc), various tissue recovery (blood/serum, spleen, LN, tumor, etc.) for ex vivo analysis, measurement of tumors, etc.
• Ex vivo analyses of tissues for validation and mechanistic studies
• Processing human blood leukopaks for isolation and cryopreservation of PBMCs
• Maintain tumor cell lines cultures and isolation of primary immune cells with standard methods and sterile technique
• Utilize high tech imaging equipment and automation for in vivo imaging and analysis (IVIS)
• Work closely with several Project Leads/Teams to complete in vivo studies
• Work closely with management and research teams to achieve objectives


Qualifications/Preferred Skillsets:

• Undergraduate degree in biology related field with proficiency in mouse handling and significant in vivo research experience
• Disease relevant in vivo research experience in cancer immunology
• Expert hands-on work skills in mouse in vivo models including IP, SC, IV and ID injections, ability to collect blood samples, and knowledge of internal organs, including immune organs, and the ability to collect tissues for ex vivo analysis
• Bench research experience including cell line culture and sterile technique
• Capable of working well in a team setting to achieve company objectives
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
